Community Outreach

Vision Arcade is primarily involved in community outreaches in rural areas of West Africa. As part of this outreach initiative, we

  • provide quality eye health checks in these communities, providing free glasses and eye drops. We also sponsor our patients for minor eye operations including cataracts surgery.
  • follow up on all our patients who have been given eye drops for glaucoma to make sure they get regular supply of their drops, through pickups in local medical centre drop off points. We also ensure they attend yearly eye health checks to monitor glaucoma progression.
  • provide post cataract checks for all our cataract patients who have had their surgeries done through well trained eye care practitioners.

Educational Seminars

Vision Arcade provides educational seminars on eye health especially in the areas of glaucoma, diabetes as it relates to diabetic retinopathy and other eye pathologies. This is achieved by giving out eye health documentation, open air seminars in the rural communities, using resource persons and interpreters in communities where patients are not English literate. Our social media platforms are also a source of eye health education.

Training and Educational Developments

Our training programme includes:

  • Training and coaching for local student optometrists before and during our projects to bring them up to speed with best practices and recent technologies/advancement in eye care.
  • Creating opportunities for students to sit in with eyecare practitioners during our projects and field work to observe and carry out minor tasks, hence enhancing their knowledge and confidence. We also create room for them to ask questions and we endeavour to answer them. At the end of all our projects we provide them with certificates of participation.
  • Educating newly qualified eye care practitioners on how to use some optical equipments during our projects.
  • Training volunteers to be able to assist the eye care practitioners during projects hence empowering them to get optical assistant jobs and optical consultant jobs post vision arcade projects.
